WENHAM HOLT NURSING HOME NEWSLETTER
October 2009
A warm welcome to everyone who has joined us at Wenham Holt since the last newsletter which was published in July 2009. We produce a newsletter up to three times a year and they are designed to keep you up to date with what is going on in the Home and some of our plans for the future.
We are getting ready to complete our Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) in the next few weeks. This is a self-assessment document we have to fill in and submit to our inspectorate The Care Quality Commission (CQC) every year and it is used by the inspector before during and after our inspection. The CQC usually wish to survey a number of people who use our service before the inspection and whilst we don’t know when this will be, if you do receive a survey form please complete and return it to them.
Service Evaluation forms.
Thanks to all of you who responded to the Service Evaluation questionnaires recently sent out. We are grateful for all the comments made and the results of the survey link into our annual development plan where appropriate. If you have not yet returned your completed form please do so in order the results can be analysed and a report produced.
Activities
Amanda our activities co-ordinator has introduced a number of new activities recently and is changing things around on a regular basis. We are producing a monthly activities schedule which is displayed in the hallway and at the entrance to the Continuing Care Unit. Amanda may be available for 1 to 1 sessions with your relative and if you would like more information on this please ask her.
The November and December programmes will be finalised soon and we will of course be putting on various Christmas activities, the dates of which will be displayed as we know them.
Decorating/Maintenance & the Environment.
The long awaited sun room off the main lounge is now complete and has been furnished ready for use. This room allows some extra space for residents and visitors to use and enjoy views over the garden.
In the past two weeks we have taken delivery of four more sets of bedroom furniture and replaced the old chests and wardrobes, which are no longer repairable. We hope to continue with furniture renewal during the next year if we are able to. In the meantime if you notice a drawer stuck or broken or any furniture with a missing handle please tell a member of staff and it will be attended to. Also please let us know if you notice any maintenance issues, which might need attention.
Internal re-decoration continues as usual and all rooms are decorated when they are empty. We are continuing to paint the corridor walls with an ‘eggshell’ paint rather than matt emulsion as it is easier to keep clean and more hard wearing.
Some of the winter hanging baskets are on display and more are being planted over the next few weeks. These will make the environment even more attractive for all to enjoy
Please continue to park considerately and try to avoid parking on the grass verges. You can double park in the car park if there are no spaces available, as the majority of staff cars are not moved between 07.30 and 14.00. If you do park in front of/behind another car and block it in we can easily ask you to move if the other car needs to get out before you are ready to leave.
Relatives Support Group
This is an informal, friendly meeting that aims to provide current and former relatives an opportunity to meet one another and help eachother with practical and emotional support. We had to cancel one of the recent meetings for unforeseen reasons but hope to be able to continue with the group as it is for the time being. The support group meets every second Monday of the month at 5.00pm, everyone is very welcome to attend and supper is provided please let us know if you would like to attend.
Resident’s Clothes.
Please continue to make sure that clothes are clearly marked with the resident’s name. This makes it less likely that clothing will get mixed up in the laundry. Please appreciate it is sometimes difficult to ensure our residents are completely colour-ordinated when you visit them as some make their own choice on what to wear and we of course go along with their choice.
Additional Services
We have a chiropodist (Angela) who visits every 6 weeks and will carry out a treatment for you or your relative if you would like her to do so. There is currently a charge of £12.00 for this service. In addition, we have a mobile hairdresser (Barbara) who visits once a week on a Wednesday. Prices are as follows:
Trim, shampoo & set £12.00
Shampoo & set £ 8.00
Cut £5.00
Perm £25.00
Care Plans
If any resident or their relatives would like to see their care plan please make an appointment with the nurse- in-charge.
Menu Choices
We offer a wide ranging choice of food for our residents and if there is something which is not on the menu we will do our best to provide it. Please ask one of the staff if there is something in particular you or your relative would like to eat and we will do our best.
Finally
If you have any questions, comments or queries about any aspect of the Home or the service we provide please ask to speak to either Rosemary or Dan or, in their absence the nurse-in-charge who will be only too pleased to assist.
